Il Gato Live Tonight @ BAMM.tv Studios

18 Jan

Il Gato Image

Il Gato is an indie-baroque-folk band from San Francisco, California. Band members include guitarist/harmonica/vocalist Daimian Holiday Scott, pianist/trumpeter/vocalist Matthew Souther, upright bassist/vocalist Andrew Thomas, drummer/vocalist Johnny Major and violinist/trumpeter Annabel Ibanez.

“With a pop sensibility, their sound incorporates folk with a reggae down beat, harmonious rap, lavish modern-classical instrumentation, and emotionally charged vocals with a floating delivery.  Common associations include Modest Mouse, Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Arcade Fire.” -il gato

Their first independent release, “All these Slippery Things” debuted in July 2010, and was recorded and mixed at Tiny Telephone and mastered by Roger Seibel at SAE Mastering ( Broken Social Scene, Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, The Dodos, Cat Power, The Decemberists, Modest Mouse, etc.).

Their musical style is embellished by full horn and string sections, piano, upright bass, drums, banjo, accordion, harmonica and melodica, hence putting the “baroque” in indie-folk. They have performed with numerous bands such as the Castanets, Tom Brosseau, The Felice Brothers, Frank Black of the Pixies (almost), The Ferocious Few, {{{sunset}}}, The Shants, Annie Bacon, Wolf & Crow. Read more about the band band at  http://www.ilgato.com.

Our crew  has been working overtime this weekend to set up one of the most outstanding stage designs of all time. We are very excited to have Il Gato in out studio tonight and to be able to share it with you! Tune in tonight to BAMM.tv/live to check out Il Gato Live at 8pm PST!

JJ Schultz

4 Jan

The JJ Schultz BandTonight’s showcase features singer/songwriter JJ Schultz.

Originally from Wisconsin, he now resides in San Francisco and is the host of the legendary Hotel Utah’s open mic night. He is also recognized as a staple in the San Francisco music scene. JJ’s music can be described in many ways, but to really understand you just have to listen. His music is said to capture what life is like living in rural America, the hardships, the struggle and overcoming the elements.

Our man demonstrates what Americana should sound like… By showing he is capable of [writing from the point of view of the father who is leaving his family behind… or of the man takes his own life after witnessing the death of his girlfriend], Schultz proves he should be ranked among today’s greatest songwriters.”- MazzMuzikaS.

We have worked with JJ in the past, but this will be JJ’s first performance at BAMM.tv so don’t miss out! To get a preview check out JJ’s Discography on Last Stop Records. Tune into BAMM.tv/live this Thursday 1.6.11 at 8pm PST

This Week: EFF Pioneer Awards, Hollerado, Kelly McFarling and Geeks Uncensored

7 Nov

No time to catch our breath after last week’s content creation marathon–we’ve got a video platform to launch!  BAMM.tv is recording some pretty amazing bands every week, and after Friday’s triple header of Erin Barra, Birds and Batteries, and the media/tech talk show “Geeks Uncensored,” we’re jumping right back into the fray with four amazing shows that you won’t want to miss.

On Monday, the Electronic Frontier Foundation presents the Pioneer Awards, an annual celebration honoring the leaders on the cutting edge of technology who are defending freedom, privacy, and innovation in the digital age.  The master of ceremonies will be famed sci-fi writer and technologist Cory Doctorow (Boing Boing), who will be introducing some of the brightest minds in the tech world.  Get your tickets here for the live event at 111 Minna in San Francisco.

If discussing the future of technology is too cerebral for you, then we’ve got the perfect remedy.  On Tuesday, Canadian indie rockers Hollerado invite you to let your hair down and enjoy a rowdy good time at BAMM.tv Studios.  Forget about the fact that these guys are self-producing videos that rival anything OK Go has ever come up with (click here to see for yourself), they are ridiculously talented, irreverent, creative, and just plain fun to listen to.  Tune into http://bamm.tv/live at 5:30pm (PST) for the full video stream.

On Thursday, we are thrilled to invite Kelly McFarling and her band into the studio for an intimate performance at 8pm (PST).  Here’s what you need to know about Kelly: she has an a-maaaaaazing voice, ranging from delicate whispers to thunderous, melodic bellows; her band is top notch, featuring some of the great musicians from acts like Con Brio and Sioux City Kid; and whereas most singer/songwriter projects are built around acoustic guitar, Kelly prefers banjo.  The combination of these influences creates a very distinctive style that is all her own.  For those who are on the lookout for emerging acts in the Bay Area, this is definitely one to watch.  As always, you can check out the live stream at http://bamm.tv/live, or if you’re in the neighborhood you can join the audience at BAMM.tv Studios (BYOB).

Rounding out the week is another episode of “Geeks Uncensored,” featuring the Russian duet of Ana Hilinsky and Anna Anisin.  The topic for this week’s show is a closely guarded secret and subject to several international treaties, but given the huge success of last week’s interviews with Daniel Brusilovsky (serial entrepreneur and TechCrunch contributor) and LA Lassek (women in tech advocate and promoter) you can bet that the next episode is going to be hot–and we mean that in every sense of the word.
